      Objective To investigate the distribution of obesity in children and adolescents and explores its relationship with the re. nal function.Methods A cross-sectional survey was conducted on 3 154 students with complete data from 6 primary and secondaryschools in Suqian city in September 2019. Height, body weight, urea nitrogen (BUN), creatinine (CR) and uric acid (UA) were mea.sured, and glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) was calculated. The renal function of different body weight groups was compared, the rela.tionship between body mass index (BMI) and renal function was analyzed. The obesity rate of different genders and age groups was com.pared, and the relationship between overweight and obesity and abnormal glomerular filtration rate was analyzed.Results There were gender and age differences in overweight and obesity among children and adolescents. The overweight and obesity rate of boys werehigher than those of girls [246 (15.14%) vs. 171 (11.18%), 204 (12.56%) vs. 103 (6.74%) ,χ2=46.47,P<0.001]. Children of 12-year-old group have the highest overweight rate (27.90%) while 6-year-old group have the lowest obesity rate (9.96%). BMI was positively corre.lated with UA and Cr after adjustment for the age and gender (partial relation coefficient R was 0.290 and 0.049, P<0.05). There were statistically significant differences in UA and eGFR among different body weight groups (P<0.05), and UA and eGFR increased gradu. ally with the increase of body weight (P<0.05). After adjusting for age and gender, obesity significantly increased the risk of abnormally elevated eGFR, with an OR (95%CI) of 1.324 (1.035-1.692), P=0.029.Conclusions There are gender and age differences in over.weight and obesity in children and adolescents. Obesity in children and adolescents is a risk factor for early glomerular hyperfiltration,and the related pathological mechanism needs further study.
