The vacuum-assisted breast biopsy system (VABB) was approved by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in 1995for the biopsy of breast tumors. The system consists of an inner and outer needle, a rotary cutter,a conveying device, a vacuum suctionpump,a controller and related software, which can perform excisional biopsy of breast lesions under various imaging guidance (breast ul.trasound,MRI, X-ray). Initially, the VABB system was mainly used for the biopsy of breast lesions, such as the diagnosis of early breastcancer. Because VABB accurately and completely removes the lesion under imaging guidance, a sufficient amount of tissue samplescan be obtained for pathological examination. Therefore,it is widely used in the treatment of benign breast diseases, such as resection ofbenign breast tumors, mastitis, and breast plastic surgery, and has become an important means of minimally invasive breast surgery. |
